– Operating principle – Sprag Lift-Off X: When the inner ring rotates at high speed, centrifugal force causes the sprags to lift off from the outer raceway (creating clearance “a”), resulting in near-zero contact and virtually no wear. This significantly increases the service life. When the speed decreases, springs return the sprags to their original position, ready to transmit torque.
– Mounting: The outer ring is press-fitted into the customer’s housing, allowing for a compact and space-saving design.
– Nominal torque capacity: Up to 20,500 Nm.
– Bore size: Up to 130 mm, with standard sizes available for quick delivery.
– Speed limit: The inner ring can freely overrun up to 5,000 rpm. At high speeds, sprags disengage from the outer ring to prevent wear. During load operation, the drive speed should not exceed 40% of the lift-off speed to ensure effective engagement.

Real-world examples:

In textile machinery, the FXN 66–25/100 NX freewheel is used in a creep drive system, enabling slow-speed start-up engagement and automatic disengagement at high speeds.
On inclined conveyors, the FXN 85–40/140 MX freewheel ensures the belt does not roll back when the motor stops.
