2. Features and Classification of KTR Flange Coupling MONOLASTIC® Type with 3 Holes
2.1. Key Features
– Manufacturer: KTR / Germany
– Product: KTR FLANGE COUPLING MONOLASTIC® Type with 3 Holes
– The KTR FLANGE COUPLING MONOLASTIC® Type with 3 Holes offers the following key features:
+ Torsional Vibration Damping: The elastomer element absorbs part of the torsional vibrations generated during power transmission, helping reduce vibration-related stress on mechanical components.
+ Shaft Misalignment Compensation: Compensates for radial, angular, and axial shaft misalignments within specified technical limits, supporting stable operation under minor installation deviations.
* Permissible radial displacement: 0.5–0.6 mm at 2,200 rpm.
* Permissible angular displacement: Up to 1° at 2,200 rpm.
* Permissible axial displacement: ±1 mm, subject to specified installation conditions.
+ Compact Integrated Design: The flexible flange and hub form a compact assembly, making the coupling suitable for drive systems with limited axial installation space.
+ Three-Hole Flange Connection: Features three bolt mounting positions for connection to the equipment flange. Flange dimensions and bolt-hole spacing must be verified before selection.
+ Easy Axial Plug-In Assembly: The hub design allows axial engagement, simplifying installation, disassembly, and maintenance.
+ Elastomer Hardness Options: Available with T65 and T70 Shore A elastomer compounds, allowing selection of suitable torsional flexibility according to torque requirements and operating conditions.
+ Available Sizes: 22, 28, 32, 50-140, 50-165, 50-170, and 60-165.
+ Nominal Torque (TKN): 40–400 Nm.
+ Maximum Torque (TKmax): 100–1,000 Nm.
+ Maximum Permissible Operating Speed: 6,000 rpm.

2.2. Construction and Operating Principle of KTR Flange Coupling MONOLASTIC® Type with 3 Holes
– Construction: The KTR FLANGE COUPLING MONOLASTIC® Type with 3 Holes is supplied as a pre-assembled unit consisting of four main components:
+ Elastomer Element: The flexible component responsible for transmitting torque and damping torsional vibrations. Available in T65 or T70 Shore A hardness.
+ Metal Hub: Connects the coupling to the driven shaft. A steel hub with a spline bore is commonly used. KTR also specifies hub configurations with keyways in its assembly instructions.
+ Circlip (DIN 471): Retains the hub in its designated axial position within the coupling assembly.
+ Sealing Washer: An additional component included in the coupling assembly.
– The coupling features a three-hole flange connection and does not require a centering recess in the engine flywheel. According to KTR, centering is achieved through the connecting bolts.
– Operating Principle:
+ During operation, torque is transmitted from the engine flywheel through the flange and elastomer element to the hub, which then transfers power to the hydraulic pump shaft.
+ The elastomer element undergoes controlled torsional deformation, helping damp torque fluctuations while compensating for minor misalignments between the engine and pump shafts.
+ Thanks to its flexible characteristics and relatively low restoring forces under radial or angular misalignment, the MONOLASTIC® coupling is particularly suitable for single and multiple hydraulic pump drive systems.
Technical Note: Misalignment compensation does not eliminate the need for proper shaft alignment. Keeping shaft misalignment as low as possible helps improve operating conditions and extend coupling service life.

3. Applications of KTR Flange Coupling MONOLASTIC® Type with 3 Holes
-The KTR FLANGE COUPLING MONOLASTIC® Type with 3 Holes is primarily designed for power transmission between diesel engines and hydraulic pumps. According to KTR, the coupling series is suitable for applications with engine power ratings of up to 250 kW.
– Typical applications include:
+ Diesel-Driven Hydraulic Power Units: Connects the engine flywheel to the hydraulic pump shaft, transmitting torque while reducing the effects of torsional vibrations.
+ Construction Machinery and Mobile Hydraulic Equipment: Suitable for compact diesel engine–hydraulic pump drive assemblies where installation space is limited.
+ Single and Multiple Hydraulic Pump Systems: Provides a flexible drive connection for hydraulic pump assemblies operating within the specified shaft misalignment limits.
Equipment with SAE or DIN Pump Shafts: Can be supplied with compatible spline hub configurations to accommodate hydraulic pump shaft connections.
