2. Characteristics of Martin Quadra-Flex Sleeves

– Manufacturer brand: Martin/USA
– Sleeve – The Martin Quadra-Flex coupling is made from high-performance elastomer material, capable of absorbing vibrations, reducing impact loads, and suppressing torsional oscillations generated during torque transmission. This reduces the load on bearings, motors, and drive components, thereby extending the lifespan of the entire drive system.
– Thanks to the elastic properties of the sleeve, the coupling can simultaneously compensate for various types of shaft misalignment in multiple directions during operation:
+ Parallel misalignment compensation from 0.015″ to 0.062″ (depending on size).
+ Angular misalignment tolerance up to 1°.
+ Allows axial displacement of approximately 0.125 inches, reducing the axial force acting on bearings and machine shafts.
– Martin offers four types of sleeve materials to meet different environments and load requirements:
+ TPR (Thermoplastic Rubber): commonly used, temperature resistant from -46°C to +135°C, elastic torsion angle 15°.
+ EPDM: suitable for high-temperature environments, operating from -34°C to +135°C.
+ Neoprene: better oil resistance than EPDM, self-extinguishing when burning, operating temperature -18°C to +93°C.
+ Hytrel: designed for heavy loads, transmitting approximately four times more power than TPR, EPDM, or Neoprene sleeves, operating temperature -54°C to +121°C.
– Depending on the material, Martin Quadra-Flex damping rubber couplings have good resistance to hydraulic oil, lubricating oil, water, glycol, dilute acids, alkalis, and many industrial chemicals. Martin provides a Chemical Resistance chart to help select the right sleeve material for the working environment, contributing to increased lifespan and reliability of the drive system.
– Quadra-Flex sleeves are manufactured in 3 construction types to meet different installation and maintenance requirements:
+ JEM: one-piece solid.
+ JEMS: one-piece split, eliminating the need to disassemble many parts for replacement.
+ EM / E / N: two-piece with retaining ring, convenient for maintenance and sleeve replacement directly on the machine.
